Making money

Making a profit will require you to seek out pairs of ports that buy and sell complementary goods. For example, say that Valencia is selling fish and you know that Barcelona is currently buying fish. Visit the market at Barcelona and select the fish slot, then drag the slider to buy as many as your ship can hold.

The number in white next to the slider is the number of fish you're buying. The number in yellow is the amount of gold it will cost you. Click buy, and then head on over to Barcelona to sell the fish for a profit.

Tips for buying and selling

Here are a few useful things to keep in mind when you're looking to make some gold in Merchant Seas:

  • Allied ports will sell to you for less and buy for more. Look for allied ports!
  • Once you purchase all of a certain good, it's gone! A new shipment will arrive at some later time in the day. It might be a shipment of the same type of good or something new.
  • The size and type of shipments that are possible depend on the level of the port. Higher level ports will get larger shipments and better types of goods.
  • You'll get better deals when the shipment size is large (the number in white). As the port gets closer to running out of a good, your potential profit will go down. Look for large shipment sizes.
  • If you purchased a good and you can't find anywhere to sell it, you can dump the cargo overboard. This should be a last resort, since the markets won't give you a refund. To do this, hover over the cargo in the bottom left and click:
